Twenty staff members from twenty-two campgrounds and RV parks in three states received their Certified Pool Operator certificates after completing an online course offered by the Texas Association of Campground Owners (TACO).

“We may be the first campground association in the country to offer Certified Pool Operator training via Zoom,” said Brian Schaeffer, TACO’s executive director and CEO.

The online class, which took place June 7 and 8, was taught by Terry Munoz, a longtime TACO board member who has been teaching Certified Pool Operator training for 22 years.

Twenty-six park staff members signed up for the course, 20 of whom passed the course and received their certifications. Park operators said they liked the convenience of being able to take the course online.

“I found the online course extremely convenient,” said Billy Killingsworth, general manager of High Limit Properties, which has parks in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

“Being able to participate in the course here at my office and handle some business tasks during the day was great,” he said. “Terry does an excellent job. I took the class and my manager also took the class. Online was so much better than having to travel.”

The Certified Pool Operator course was the second in a series of online educational courses provided by TACO as a service to its members. Its next Zoom course will be Aug. 9 and will be taught by Chris Hipple, of Leavitt Recreation and Hospitality Insurance, who will discuss emergency preparedness and various ways in which park operators can reduce their insurance risks.

TACO will continue to host these member-only webinars throughout the year with industry specialists tackling a variety of topics. Each session will include question-and-answer time for TACO members.
