Spring means spring cleaning is in the air! But tackling your entire home can feel daunting. Here are a few ways to make the process easier this year.
This time of year is the perfect time to tackle those tasks that are necessary but not on your weekly cleaning routine. Vacuum your mattresses and upholstered furniture. Deep clean your refrigerator and freezer. Go ahead and pull appliances out and clean behind them. You’ll also want to use this time to do safety checks of your appliances, water heater, and heating and cooling systems. Don’t forget to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors too. You’ll start off the busy spring and summer season knowing your home is safe.
Attacking your to-do list room by room is the most efficient way to work. Create boxes or bins to keep in the hallway and collect stray items. Then you don’t have to go back and forth each time you find something that doesn’t belong in a room. Look for clutter such as old magazines or receipts that can be thrown out. These things tend to pile up, especially next to places we spend a lot of time.
Clean from the top of the room down to save time and energy. If you clean the windows, walls, and furniture first, excess dust will fall straight to the floor. You can then vacuum once to clean the entire room. A quick spray of non-toxic air freshener or a homemade essential oil spray will give added freshness to the air. You can then move on to the next room, satisfied with your progress.
