Did you know that 1.3 million people live in a RV full-time? For those considering living in an RV rather than using it as a vacation home, here are some tips offered by full-time RVer Kathy Huggins, reported by AOL Real Estate. Kathy and her husband John have been living this dream for seven years.
Mrs. Huggins recommends getting organized in areas like mail forwarding, banking and bill paying. In regard to mail, either use a forwarding service or have a friend or relative forward mail. Online banking using direct deposits and debit cards is a great convenience. Also, as much as possible, pay bills through your online banking account.
While the Huggins say that for them it is less costly to live in an RV than a brick-and-mortar home, they advocate the need for having a flexible budget to accommodate unexpected expenses. Since long-term campers normally are required to pay for their own electricity, you can save on this bill by staying at parks for less than one month at a time.
A final tip is to get a tax break. As full-time RVers can call any state home, choose a state with tax advantages. South Dakota doesn’t have a state income tax, so many full-time RVers call it home.
