The Texas Association of Campground Owners (TACO) recently invited the National Weather Service to provide a free training session on hazardous weather awareness and preparation last Wednesday (June 10).
The hour-long session featured Christopher Morris, senior service hydrologist for the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio, who discussed how to stay informed on various weather hazards, reviewed essential hazard preparedness and warning procedures and highlighted NWS resources and readiness programs that can assist camp owners with hazardous weather awareness and preparedness.
“The weather webinar put on by Texas Campgrounds was a great way to better provide knowledge for myself and the owner at our RV park in Canyon Lake,” noted Blake Birkeland, B2 Hideaway RV Park & Cottages. “From the webinar, I will be able to develop my plan of action for our park in Canyon Lake. I also became an ambassador for the weather channel. It was a great webinar!”
The event’s PowerPoint presentation plus a recording of the webinar is now available to TACO members through TACO’s password-protected member website under the Info Hub.
“I especially liked, and will benefit from, the many slides that contained QR codes for references like flood predictions, river warnings and to sign up for the WRN,” said Terri Blaschke from Hidden Valley. “Chris Morris was very clear and understandable for those of us without meteorologist backgrounds. You could tell that helping people be aware and prepared for Hazardous weather is a topic he is passionate about. Overall a very informative and helpful presentation.”
