Deep in the heart of Texas, the most wonderful sight is available year-round: The sky. While we are quite famous for our gorgeous Texas sunsets, the hill country’s vast open spaces also help provide a perfect setting for some late-night stargazing. With the park located 30 miles away from the nearest city and void of big-city light pollution, our location is ideal for spending a night under the sky.

Most visitors to the area are surprised by just how many stars are visible on a clear night. In a typical city, a few hundred stars may be visible each night. Here, we are closer to a thousand or more. While the night sky is beautiful on its own, a few upcoming meteor showers will really make the sky shine. Some of the upcoming showers include:

July 29-30 — Southern Delta Aquarids meteor shower

July 26-27 — Alpha Capricornids meteor shower

Aug. 12-13 — Perseids meteor shower

On a clear night, most showers are visible to the naked eye so fancy telescopes are not necessary. We recommend getting set up just before dusk with a few comfortable lawn chairs, a good blanket, some bug spray and a little wine for a night of relaxation and dazzling views!
