In much of the country, late September is perfect weather for camping. However, there is nothing worse than arriving at your destination and finding you’ve forgotten something you need. Consumer Reports provides this list of essential items to pack for your next camping trip.

Remember the Basics

The basics are the most important items to pack because you can be at a disadvantage without them. These include medications, extra batteries and a backpack as well as trash bags, a cooler and toilet paper.

Include Navigation Items

A GPS Navigation System can be invaluable in preventing you from getting lost and reducing the frustration involving in driving in an unfamiliar place. But technology isn’t without its glitches, so always bring along a map and compass just in case.

Pack Outdoor Accessories

Think about the outdoor activities in which you plan to engage, and bring any accessories that may be helpful. These may include binoculars, hiking boots and sunglasses.

Be Prepared for Emergencies

Unexpected things can happen, so pack a first-aid kit, bottled water and nonperishable food items.
